The summer is always a busy time in dental recruitment. Many dental professionals take their vacation during the summer months leaving many dental practices short staffed. There is a huge amount of temp work available, but unfortunately many full-time temps also take their vacations at this time.
An answer to this short staffing issue could be to employ a dental student for the summer. Students who are in dental training programs are keen to do any kind of work, in order get a bit of real life experience in a dental practice, and they also probably have student loans to pay off after all.
Students offer a good deal for the dental practice. They can work as reception staff or as trainee dental assistants. Many have a good working knowledge of dentistry, they are usually well spoken, well educated and have good communication skills – all essential qualities for good dental office personnel.
There is a large pool of talent that seems to be going to waste here, as dental students trudge back to their home towns to work in the local grocery store, rather than getting experience in the field they have actually chosen to work. Who knows, by employing students over the summer you could be starting a good working relationship that will continue once they graduate.
